Échelon Skincare: Taking antioxidant encapsulation to a new level
We don’t add new brands to our catalog very often, but when we heard about Échelon Skin Science, we knew we had to carry them. Read on to learn more about their science and why their simple but powerful two product line was something we couldn’t pass up.
What is Échelon Skin Science’s technology?
An exciting new brand, Échelon is focused on using their Pro-MP™ patented microparticles for improved ingredient delivery. This micro particle is completely biodegradable and non-toxic, and designed penetrate the skin and deliver ingredients in a sustained release over time (almost 200 hours).
That combines to create a faster and safer method of delivering ingredients to skin than pills or even needles can.
What ingredients does Échelon focus on?
Échelon’s current product line is focused on antioxidants to protect and repair sun damage and oxidative stress. Their primary antioxidants are superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase (CAT), two naturally occurring, well-studied antioxidants that are known for their powerful abilities to fight free radicals.
The problem with SOD and CAT when it comes to use in skincare products is that they are fairly large molecules, making them impossible for skin to absorb. So, despite their reputation as powerful antioxidants, they have not been very successfully used in skincare.
How do Échelon’s products work?
Using Pro-MP™ micro particles to encapsulate SOD and CAT antioxidants, Échelon products have been clinically proven to deliver antioxidants deep into the skin where they stay for roughly 192 hours. This means that a once a day application for their products is plenty—no need to reapply twice daily, as the product stays in your skin.
Because these antioxidants are well-known and studied ingredients, we know that they actually stay in the skin and do not absorb systemically. That’s great news if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, since non-systemic products are generally considered safe (but you should always check with your doctor).
Because of this sustained delivery and ability to remain in the skin fairly long, with Échelon’s products, antioxidants are able to work consistently to fight free radicals, neutralizing nearly 100% of them.
Since free radicals are responsible for a lot of age and sun-related skin damage, that adds up to a massive benefit to your skin: reducing inflammation, oxidative stress, and repairing visible damage.
